As we try to heighten BIPOC voices, experiences, and knowledge, PARC is delighted to offer to our membership a series of masterclasses with playwrights Bilal Baig, Yolanda Bonnell, and Carmen Aguirre; a workshop with Carmen Aguirre for BIPOC playwrights only; and a panel discussion with Yolanda, Carmen and PARC Artistic Associate Santiago Guzman!
Bilal’s masterclass will focus on building character, sustaining tension, and use of language in work, and will take place on Saturday, February 27th, from 2-4 pm AST.
Carmen Aguirre’s masterclass will take place on Saturday, March 20th, from 2-4 pm AST, and her playwriting workshop for BIPOC playwrights only will take place on the weekend of March 26-28. More details to follow!
Yolanda’s masterclass will touch on the notion of a play, discussing dramatic structure, and how her work as a playwright aims to decolonize traditional approaches to storytelling. This masterclass will take place on Saturday, April 10th, from 2-4 pm AST.
The panel discussion with Yolanda, Carmen, and myself will examine writing BIPOC characters when you are not BIPOC, the best way to approach consultations, applying cultural sensitivity in writing, and more! It will take place during our 2021 Playwrights Retreat, on Saturday, May 15th, from 7-9 pm AST.
If you are interested in signing up for the masterclasses and panels, please fill out the form found here.
All masterclasses and the panel are free to PARC members, and $10 each for non-members. (A reminder that a Playwrighting membership with PARC is $40!)
