Dan Bray (he/him) is a multidisciplinary artist currently living in Antigonish. He is the founder and artistic director of The Villains Theatre, for which he has adapted and directed many shows, including his current project: the first ever stage adaptation of the British novel, Observatory Mansions by Edward Carey, premiering in Kjipuktuk/Halifax Apr 21-25 at DANSpace and which was developed through the 2020 PARC Retreat. His original plays and adaptations have earned him multiple Merritt nominations (including “Outstanding New Play By A Nova Scotian” for Zomblet and Arden). He debuts many of his new works through the wonderful Halifax Fringe, which have also garnered him several awards (select: Return to Baker Street, 2016 (with Jacob Sampson), “Best Comedy,” “Best New Play by a Nova Scotian"; Herbie Dragons, (with Kevin Hartford), “Fringe Hit”; Criminal Negligee, “Best Playwright”). In addition to his work as a playwright, Dan is a director, dramaturge, and actor, and has had the good fortune of working with many stellar local companies, including Two Planks & a Passion, Shakespeare by the Sea, Eastern Front, Workshirt Opera, Xara Choral Theatre, Terra Novella Theatre, Lions Den Theatre, and - most recently - Phyllis Rising Productions. Dan is also a former member of the EFT playwrights unit. In his spare time, Dan enjoys building miniatures, watching spooky movies, and lounging with his cat Gilbert.
