The PARC Playwright Profile for December is Justin Shaw

Justin Shaw is a theatre artist originally from Prince Edward Island. He is a graduate of the University of Prince Edward Island, as well as the National Theatre School of Canada (Acting, 2017). Shaw’s debut solo show The Wrestling Play premiered at the 2017 Island Fringe Festival, earning the Patron’s Pick distinction, and was later presented at Edmonton’s 2019 Nextfest Arts & Culture Festival. As a stand-up comedian, he has performed with some of Canada’s most top acts, including Lorne Elliott, Scott Faulconbridge, Elvira Kurt, and Mike MacDonald. In 2018, Shaw was selected as an Artist In Residence by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, offering instruction and artistic support to community performers in Northern Alberta. Most recently, was invited to share a short story on Mike Birbiglia’s online Working It Out comedy show. Shaw regularly maintains a public journal where he shares stories about growing up in rural Prince Edward Island, and is presently in the process of developing a new solo show. He currently lives in Hamilton with his fiancé Diana, and his dog, Phoebe.
