BIO

Paul writes plays, short and long fiction, book reviews, newspaper and magazine articles. He has conducted outdoor writing workshops in unique locations, is a monthly columnist for the Cape Breton Post, and is a contributor/interviewer for The Coast 89.7 FM Radio in Cape Breton for the past twelve years. His day job is Senior Instructor in Health Sciences at Cape Breton University. Over the past twenty years Paul has written and co-written eight plays all of which were originally produced at the Elizabeth Boardmore One-Act Play Festival at CBU and five have won the Boardmore Prize for Best Original Script. Seven of the eight plays have been staged at various small halls and venues in the Sydney and surrounding area. In 2022 he co-wrote with Duncan Wells, Donair the Musical which has been stage read and developed into a radio play (broadcast on Coast 89.7 FM) and will be produced on stage in August 2026 at the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay. His newest short play, Daybreak, will we part of the Elizabeth Boardmore Festival in March, 2026. Paul is also the author of Distinction Earned, a book about Cape Breton boxers, has had a documentary film made based on it and has also dabbled a bit in short films. His first short film, Man versus Ferry, was screened at 14 film festivals in Canadian and international locations in 2024 and picked up five awards. It can be seen on YouTube as well under the title. A second film is in production and will likely be reading for screening in March 2026.
