Thanks to funding from ArtsNL and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, PARC is thrilled to offer play development support to PARC NL members! First in this series was PARC Member Terry Doyle, who worked on his new play Begging to be Stolen. With dramaturgy by PARC AD Santiago Guzmán and apprentice dramaturge Lydia Makaga, the play was read at The SPACE by Brandon Cave, Selina Asgar, Andrew Halliday, Amelia Manuel and Winnie Churchill.
In our second session, PARC workshopped and showcased two plays selected in partnership with PARC Company Member Shakespeare the Sea NL. The first, Amapiano Meets Shakespeare by Nicole Obiodiaka & Pinky Rido, was developed with dramaturgical support from PARC AD Santiago Guzmán and apprentice dramaturge Lydia Makaga. Amapiano Meets Shakespeare was read virtually by Helen Belay, Luke Rowe, and Jamal Weekes.
This session of development also included PARC Member Brianna Russell’s new play Icarus is Falling, with dramaturgy by Keshia Palm. Icarus is Falling was read at The SPACE by Michael Nolan, Jeremy Nolan, and Mashrur Rashid.
The last session in our series of workshops and readings gave PARC Member Bernardine Stapleton the opportunity to develop her new play Ophelia Saves the World From Zombies. With dramaturgy by former PARC AD Pamela Halstead, the script was eventually read by Selina Asgar as well as PARC members Lydia Makaga, Cheney Emberg, Leahdawn Helena, Amy House, and Amelia Manuel.
