On March 22, 2025, PARC hosted the annual U-Compete finalist readings, celebrating student playwrights from across the Atlantic Provinces. In Tantramar, NB in collaboration with Marshlight Theatre’s New Works Festival, artists from Canada and beyond connected to perform staged readings of the provincially selected scripts. For some students, the U-Compete might be their very first time seeing their work performed live – each provincial winner will receive professional dramaturgical feedback through PARC.
Congratulations again to our provincial finalists: Phoebe Rex’s PLACES, a menacing introduction to the world of cut-throat ballet, Lydia Makaga’s The Perfect Daughters, a reflection on family dynamics and leaving home, which was voted Audience Choice, and Thunder Defayette’s On the Eventual Consumption of St. Katherine. In which a woman literally consumes her idol, On the Eventual Consumption of St. Katherine was selected as the 2025 U-Compete Overall Winner. It will also be presented by Villains Theatre in Nova Scotia on April 11, 2025, as part of their Emerging Artist Showcase.
Missed the live event? You can still watch the staged readings on PARC’s Facebook Page.
