PARC Opens Submissions for the Third Annual Jenny Munday Atlantic Canadian Play Award (Pan-Atlantic)

Nov 16, 2025

Playwrights Atlantic Resource Centre (PARC) is honoured to announce the third annual Jenny Munday Atlantic Canadian Play Award. This award honours Jenny Munday, PARC’s inaugural Artistic Director who dedicated 20 years of service to the organization, celebrating her legacy while providing vital support and recognition to playwrights from Atlantic Canada.

During her twenty years with PARC, Jenny Munday oversaw the establishment of several of PARC’s core development programs: our annual Playwrights’ Retreats, established the Jenny’s Kitchen Table Reading program, created the PARC script collection, and helped found the Playwright Development Centres of Canada, which gave Atlantic playwrights a wider profile across the country. Jenny’s profound impact on PARC and the wider Canadian theatre community was immeasurable. Her dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to fostering emerging talent left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Submissions for the Jenny Munday Atlantic Canadian Play Award will open on November 15, 2025 and will be accepted until January 15, 2026. A jury of three theatre artists will select the winning play. Scripts that have not yet been produced or have had one production by Atlantic Canadian playwrights will be eligible. The prize will be $1,500.00 with two prizes of $500.00 for the runners-up. The winning scripts will be announced in May 2026 at PARC’s Annual Playwrights Retreat.

Atlantic Canadian playwrights are invited to submit their original work for consideration. For the purposes of this award, an Atlantic Canadian play is defined as one written by a playwright who was born or has lived for a substantial portion of their life in Atlantic Canada (Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island) or is currently a resident of Atlantic Canada. “Resident” is defined as a Canadian citizen or a landed immigrant who has lived in the region a minimum of two years prior to the deadline.

Interested playwrights will be able to submit their scripts HERE. Detailed submission guidelines and eligibility criteria can be found HERE.

PARC appreciates donations to honour Jenny Munday’s legacy through this award, which can be submitted through our PayPal account. Charitable receipts will be available upon request.
