PARC to Host ‘Dramaturgy 101 Student Workshop’ With AD Santiago Guzmán (National/Online)

Nov 3, 2026

PARC is pleased to invite you to join a three-hour workshop for students on what it means to be a dramaturge, led by PARC AD and professional dramaturge Santiago Guzmán. This workshop is open to emerging student playwrights and dramaturges who want to learn more about analyzing scripts, framing dramaturgical questions, and what a dramaturge may be looking for as they read a play. This workshop is also open to all student actors, directors, scenographers, and designers who may be curious about learning about the dramaturge’s toolkit.

In this workshop, participants will use the draft of a new play, written by an Atlantic Canadian playwright, as the foundation for discussion and analysis. PARC’s Artistic Director Santiago Guzmán will cover the role of the dramaturge, common points of dramaturgical analysis, how to break down a script and formulate questions, and building relationships with playwrights and dramaturges. Then, Santiago will lead a group dramaturgical session with the playwright, offering participants a hands-on opportunity to engage with the creative process.
