BIO

Mike Griffin has worked across the country as a theatre educator, playwright and director. Mike currently teaches at Brock University and also taught at the University of Calgary and Red Deer College. In addition, he was the Crake Fellow in Drama at Mt. Allison University. Mike teaches acting, movement, mask, Commedia dell'Arte, devised theatre, and directing. Professionally, Mike has worked with an array of different companies including: Theatre Calgary, Bard on the Beach, The Watermark Theatre, Vertigo Mystery Theatre, Ground Zero Theatre, Hit and Myth Productions, Quest Theatre, and Apparition Theatre. Mike was also one of the founding members of Beyond the Brink Productions in Calgary. Commedia dell'Arte is a major area of creative research for Mike. He is published in The Routledge Companion to Commedia dell’Arte with a chapter on the rival playwrights Carlo Goldoni and Carlo Gozzi. Mike also was the Commedia specialist and assistant director for the Canadian Premiere of One Man Two Guvnors at Theatre Calgary. Mike has penned a number of plays, including adaptations of Alice and Wonderland, The Oresteia (The Curse of the House of Atreus) and both The Servant of Two Masters and The Fan by Carolo Goldoni. He has also written two original Commedia dell'Arte plays The Wooers’ Woods and Pantalone's Palace.
