BIO

Garry Williams is an award-winning composer-lyricist as well as a distinguished collaborative theatre-maker, actor, musician, and educator. Educated in Berlin, New York, and Canada, he lives in Kjipuktuk/Halifax. His original theatre scores include So… What About Love?; King of Berlin (with Kristin Slaney); Troubling Joy (with North Barn Collective); Play Building (Ship’s Company); Crypthand (Gale Force); Merritt Award winning Musical KAMP; and Merritt-nominated scores for Pinocchio, Twelfth Night, and The Wizard of Oz (Shakespeare by the Sea). His TYA scores include the James Thurber adaptation The 13 Clocks (John-F.-Kennedy Schule); book, music, and lyrics for That’s Our Job! and Supermoms (Mountainview Church); music and lyrics for An Enchanted Twist ( Astral Drive Elementary) and Munsch Upon A Time (Festival Antigonish). He has written scripts and plays including No Christmas Without Krampus; The Pirate Show; Happy Birthday, Princess Plum!; A Very Cratchit Christmas (DaPoPo Theatre/Alderney Landing); Jesus Is A Faggot (DaPoPo); Malleus Maleficarum (Natural Disaster). His theatre roles include the titular role in The Miracle Man (Two Planks and a Passion), Gloucester in King Lear (SBTS), Frederic in A Little Night Music (Halifax Summer Opera Festival), Jamie in The Last Five Years (About Time Productions), Feste in Twelfth Night, Puck in Midsummer Night’s Dream, (SBTS), Rue in 333 (Theatre Outré), Andrzej in Skylark Song (Page 1), Polonius in Hamlet, and Uncle Jim in Love, Peace and Hairgrease (EFT). He has directed musicals, operetta, and operas including Pippin, She Loves Me, Assassins, Patience, Le nozze di Figaro, and Alcina. He is a founding member and the Artistic Director of DaPoPo Theatre since 2004. He is currently collaborating with Deivan Steele on a new Musical, The Book of Kit and Mel.
