BIO

Born in Newfoundland and Labrador (Canada), Lois Brown (B.A UofA; M.Ed MUN) established her artistic practice in St. John’s, Newfoundland. She is an original member of Neighbourhood Dance Works, and curated the Festival of New Dance through the eighties and nineties. She also was Artistic Animateur of RCA Theatre Company and known for her innovative programming. She has received numerous recognitions for her work including The Newfoundland and Labrador Artist Achievement Award (2005), The Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award for outstanding achievement in theatre by The Canada Council for the Arts (2005). She was inducted into Dance Collection Danse Encore! Dance Hall of Fame in Toronto(2019). Lois continues to bring her exploration of dramaturgy and choreography to her on-going investigation into objects, improvisation, archipelagic thinking/islandness, and disability.Last year she was in residnecy at Willow’s Nest in Berlin, after co-presenting a performance-lecture at CARPA8 meeting on theatre and dance dramaturgy in Helsinki called “Moving with ghosts”.
