BIO

Nabila Qureshi is a social sciences enthusiast who takes great enjoyment in multi-media mediums that foster creative and critical expression. Her most recent theatre work was with TODOS Productions Inc. and White Rooster Theatre’s ‘Newfoundlanded’ (November ‘24). She essayed the roles of Co-playwright, Assistant Director, and Actor under the mentorship of Santiago Guzmán. She was recently a staged reading actor for Cheney Emberg’s ‘Iphis is a Man’ at Persistence Theatre Company (September ’24), and has stage read for a number of plays at the Women’s Work Festival (2015–Present). She and her mother acted in Prajwala Dixit’s short play ‘Log Kya Kahenge’ at the St. John’s Shorts Festival (Sep ’19) —also directed by Guzmán. She essayed the role of a worker at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in 1911, in Jenna Turk’s play ‘Remnants’ which was directed by Ruth Lawrence (March ’19), and had a minor actor role in Lawrence’s 2020 film ‘Little Orphans’. She is one of many writers in the anthology book ‘Us, Now’, edited by Lisa Moore (2021). From MUN, Nabila holds a graduate diploma in Community Health in the Faculty of Medicine. She also holds two undergraduate degrees in Commerce and Arts (major religious studies) from there, along with an undergraduate diploma in Performance and Communications Media. From the former Ryerson University, she holds a Certificate in Film Studies. Nabila is the recipient of the YWCA St. John’s Women of Distinction Award (2019), the YMCA St. John’s Peace Medal (2018), Mental Health Research Scholarship from the Canadian Mental Health Association of NL (2020), Vagina Warrior award from The Vagina Monologues in St. John’s (2020), the Shirley Case Leadership Award from the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (2019), and the Assistant Deputy Minister’s Awards of Excellent from the Government of Canada (2016). She has been a resident of St. John’s for 16 years, and has previously lived in Toronto, Ottawa, Abu Dhabi (U.A.E), Kerman (Iran), and Penang (Malaysia).
